What Does ME'Shalle Represent As An Artist

How would an artist describe a lifelong relationship with electronic music? For ME'Shalle, music has remained a constant throughout her life.

She did not start DJing because it looked fashionable or popular. Electronic music had already become part of her identity during her teenage years.

Her journey included pauses, setbacks, a career behind the scenes, and becoming a mother. Eventually, she found the confidence to step into the spotlight.

Today, she describes her artistic identity through authenticity. She does not chase trends or play music simply because it dominates the scene.

Instead, she chooses music that makes her feel something. She wants people to lose themselves in the music and enjoy themselves for a few hours.

She also wants audiences to forget what happens outside the dancefloor. Most importantly, she wants them to connect through music. If someone leaves her set feeling lighter, smiling, and happy, she considers it a successful performance.

Where Did Her Love For House Music Begin?

What does discovering house music at 13 feel like? For ME'Shalle, the experience felt almost magical.

Electronic music did not exist everywhere during her childhood. Finding it felt like discovering a secret world that few people understood.

She remembers hearing Robin S - Show Me Love played by DJ Dizzy. The track immediately created a feeling she struggled to explain.It was not only about the beat. The music carried emotion, energy, and freedom.

House music also created an environment where everyone belonged. It did not care who someone was or where they came from. ME'Shalle calls that period the love generation. Although she was too young, she found ways to experience clubs and underground raves.

She watched DJs control entire rooms while people from different backgrounds danced without judgement. Looking back, she realised she had fallen in love with the culture.

What Did Learning Vinyl Teach Her?

At 19, ME'Shalle completed her first vinyl DJ course with respected names in South Africa's industry. What did learning without modern technology teach her? Above all, it taught her respect for the craft.

There was no sync button, no waveforms, and no shortcuts. She had to listen carefully and understand what she heard.
Training with Dizzy, Nelson, DJ Adrian, and Surge taught her discipline and patience. Every successful mix required preparation, concentration, and practice.

Those lessons have remained important throughout her career. Technology has changed, but she still believes the ears remain a DJ's greatest tool. For her, good DJing involves more than pressing buttons. It requires understanding music, feeling people, and knowing how to tell a story.

How Did Live Production Shape Her DJ Career?

How does working behind the scenes change the way an artist performs? ME'Shalle gained valuable perspective through her events and live production experience.

She worked with major international artists and saw the enormous effort behind successful events. Audiences often see only the artist standing on stage.

However, production teams, sound engineers, lighting crews, promoters, and planners all contribute to successful events. Working on shows with Fatboy Slim, Metallica, Audio Bullies, Collective Soul, and others taught her professionalism.

She also observed how different artists connected with their audiences. Each artist offered lessons she could carry into her own performances.

Today, she thinks beyond her individual DJ set. She focuses on creating an entire experience. Music remains one part of that experience. She describes herself as a creator currently working towards a bigger experience and plan.

What Inspired "Love Mee"?

What happens when artists create an event around genuine connection? ME'Shalle and Justin Vee explored that idea through Love Mee. The platform and event series developed from something they felt was missing. They wanted people to attend because of the music.

They did not want the focus placed on VIP tables or social media photos. Instead, they wanted genuine connection.

Their vision centred on intimate dancefloors, incredible sound, amazing DJs, and an atmosphere where everyone felt welcome. House music has always carried a strong sense of community. Love Mee continues that philosophy through its connection with Mutha FM.

They hosted Love Mee for listeners around the world. Someone listening from Johannesburg could connect with someone listening from London or Ibiza. They wanted everyone to feel like they shared the same dancefloor. For them, music does not recognise borders.

They are also in the process of launching a new show on Mutha FM.

Why Does "She Hits The Sweet Spot" Matter?

Why does supporting female artists matter within electronic music? ME'Shalle believes the industry has changed, but more work remains.

Many talented women create phenomenal music. Yet they do not always receive the recognition they deserve.

That reality inspired She Sets The Sweet Spot. The radio show provides a platform for female DJs, producers, and artists.
The purpose does not centre on celebrating women simply because they are women. ME'Shalle wants to celebrate them because they are exceptional musicians.

Her advice to women entering the industry remains direct:

•    Support other women instead of competing.
•    Stay true to your own sound.
•    Recognise your uniqueness as your greatest strength.

What Does The Future Hold For ME'Shalle?

Where could her sound and career go during the next few years? ME'Shalle believes the dream has always been bigger.

She wants to develop her sound until audiences recognise her instantly. She wants listeners to hear one of her sets and immediately know it is hers.

Her current label, She Freaks, comes from the intricate sounds she loves. She describes those sounds as slightly twisted.

She wants to build an internationally recognised brand while expanding She Sets The Sweet Spot globally. She also wants to keep connecting with listeners through Mutha FM every week.

She describes Mutha FM as an ideal platform for DJs wanting their sound heard. Her own experience provides proof of that belief.
Internationally, she would love to perform in Ibiza, Amsterdam, London, Berlin, and at major festivals worldwide.

She wants these opportunities because audiences there genuinely appreciate electronic music. She believes her sound would receive strong appreciation in those environments.

She also feels there is currently nowhere in South Africa where she can fully remain true to her sound.

What Does Success Mean To ME'Shalle?

Is success measured through followers, bookings, or something deeper? For ME'Shalle, success ultimately comes down to the lives you touch.

She wants people to remember her as someone who genuinely loved music. She also wants them to remember how she helped others along the way.

Most importantly, she wants people to remember the smiles she created on the dancefloor.
